2009: The Hernando de Soto Bridge and Arkansas Bridge by 5bdavidn in Hernando de Soto Bridge
The Mississippi River Bridges are amazing. There is the Hernanado de Soto Bridge and that one is in the shape of an "M". The other bridge is much older and is called the Arkansas Bridge. The first half of it was built upside down! They did not change though, because it would have cost too much money. Both bridges have to be very strong to stand up for so long while the whole might of the Mississippi River pounds into them. The Mississippi River also happens to be the third biggest river in the world. Another reason they have to be so strong is that they have hundreds of people and cars go over them a week. The bridges have to be checked constantly to make sure they stand strong. Another cool thing is that on Hernando de Soto Bridge every light has a plaque under them that has someone's name on it. These are marvelous man made structures that tower over us; they are fantastic and odd fenominons that shock me. These bridges really do remind us how amazing God has allowed us to be, but when I think about we will never be able to get even close to as amazing as God is.
