2003: 111 Sutter Street is HAUNTED! by digitaldiva in 111 Sutter Street
I worked in this building for 5 years, from 2000 to 2005 and I swear on a stack of bibles that the building is haunted. First, if you haven't seen it, it's a really cool historic building built in 1926 and the fictitious home of Sam Spade (Maltese Falcon). The building looks especially creepy at night since it has beasts mounted on the roof a la Ghost Busters to scare away the ghouls.

Enough about the building, now the ghost. My coworker and friend, we'll call her Mel for this story, used to run everyday around 6PM. One day we met by the 15th floor entrance/exit doors and as we stepped out into the elevator area we noticed that an elevator was open with a man standing in it. Simultaneously, we pushed the down button and the doors closed (I was thinking how rude the man was for not trying to hold the door open...you know the type). The same elevator that was open closed and reopened, but the man was gone. Mel and I looked at each other because we both saw and were thinking the same thing. Mel called it a duppy (the Jamaican word for a ghost) and I agreed. There was no other logical explanation for us seeing a man leaning against the back of the elevator one minute and gone the next.

So, I'm sure you're wondering if we got on that elevator. Well...we did! The strange thing was that we weren't scared. It did help that we were together and there is strength in numbers. However, I never worked alone late at night after that night.

No, I don't see ghosts on a regular basis and no, I've never been visited by any green beings. I'm a regular skeptic like the next person.
